Flood Insurance Information
Flood Insurance in Zephyrhills and Dade City, FL
Flooding is among the most frequent and damaging natural disasters in the U.S. It can lead to severe property damage and thousands of dollars in repairs. Flood damage is not typically included in standard homeowners policies, but adding flood insurance may help manage potential costs.
What Does Flood Insurance Cover?
Flood insurance typically includes two categories of protection:
- Building coverage may help cover repairs to structural parts of your home, such as the foundation, electrical and plumbing systems, walls and built-in features like cabinets or bookcases.
- Contents coverage may apply to personal belongings damaged by rising water, including furniture, clothing, electronics, curtains and certain portable appliances.
Flood insurance does not cover all damage and property. Standard policies typically exclude the following:
- Damage from moisture, mildew or mold that the homeowner could have prevented
- Temporary living expenses like hotel stays or meals during displacement
- Financial losses from business interruption
- Currency, precious metals or valuable papers
- Vehicles and other self-propelled machines
- Property and belongings located outside the insured building, such as landscaping, fences, patios, decks and swimming pools
- Additional structures on the property (unless separately covered)
In addition, personal belongings in basements or crawl spaces may have limited or no coverage, depending on the policy.
How Much Does Flood Insurance Cost?
Insurers determine how much you’ll pay for flood insurance based on factors such as the following:
- Home’s age, construction and materials
- Property elevation and slope
Flood insurance may be purchased through the National Flood Insurance Program or some private carriers. Be sure to review your risk and coverage options early since new policies often have a 30-day waiting period.
